The reopening of the Muslim mind
A mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work if it is not open. So to survive, you need to keep your mind open.
A civilization is a result of the collective intellectual products of its people. Once it decides to limit their freedom of thinking and innovating, it will be practically asking them to shut their minds.
This, in fact, will be the beginning of the end for that civilization.
If you want Muslims to catch up with the 21st century, reopen your mind. Use critical thinking to understand the world around you and to reexamine your intellectual and religious heritage. In Islam, there are no saints or holy men. Any work produced by anyone should be subject to critical examination. This is the way to revitalize our understanding of our heritage, to reproduce the knowledge necessary to cross the huge gap that separates us now from the rest of the world and to have a contemporary understanding of our Qur’an and the Sunnah.
